David Steel | 9th July 2023
Across June and July, we’re asking YOURCLUB subscribers and Darlo Owners to vote on what they think is the best Darlo Loan XI of the modern era (1989/90 onwards). With the team's keeper, back four and midfield three now secured, we will be asking you this week to vote on your favourite strikers/centre forwards, culminating in a 4-3-3 formation that you will have deemed to be our the 'Best Darlo Loan XI' from the last c35 years!
Our 'Best Darlo Loan XI' midfield three are now in place – Neil Wainwright (30%), Matty Appleby (18%) and Joe Leesley (12%) join Aynsley Pears, Dan Dodds, Olivier Bernard, Craig Liddle and David Wheater as our team starts to come together.
Thomas Butler (7%) takes his place alongside Jordan Pickford and Matthew Bates on the subs bench. Thank you to everyone who voted in our midfielders' poll last week.
This week we're asking you to vote for your favourite Darlo loan forwards.
We can't include every striker or centre forward that has played for us on loan since the 89/90 season (as with the midfielders, cutting down the longlist to the shortlist of 15 was hard work! Sorry Daniel Chillingworth, Matt Green, Jemal Johnson...), so the list below is of those who made enough appearances and/or impact to warrant inclusion.
Remember to vote based on their performances in a Darlo shirt whilst on loan (more so than the career they went on to have).
Once you have reviewed the long list and given it some thought, head over to our YC online poll and vote for who you think should be our three up top. Three votes per person this week and the forward who receives the fourth highest number of votes will sit on our 'Best Darlo Loan XI' subs bench alongside Jordan Pickford, Matthew Bates and Thomas Butler.
The poll is now live and will close at 6pm on Saturday 15th July 2023
Our 15 nominees are (in alphabetical order):
We will let you know the outcome of the poll and our completed 'Best Darlo Loan XI' early w/c 17th July.
Get voting and have your say!
