Mary Bowes

The DFCSG board were very saddened to hear of the passing of Mary Bowes on Thursday 29th June 2023.

Mary, who was 81, was a much-loved and well-respected volunteer at the club over several decades, during which she hardly missed a game.

Alongside her husband Glen, she was heavily involved in many roles at the club. Right up to the end of the 2022/23 season, Mary was selling 50/50 tickets and programmes at home games, helping Glen run the DFCSG supporter's bus for away games and was spending time during the week at Quaker Retail in the Dolphin Centre.

Mary undertook many volunteer roles for the club over the years, especially fundraising since we became a fan-owned club in 2012. She was a familiar face to everyone who came to our matches and was loved and respected by all.

Mary's funeral took place on Friday 21st July 2023 at Darlington Crematorium. The service could be watched online as well as being heavily attended by family, friends, DFC fans and ex-players/managers.

So strong was Mary's love for the club, her family has requested that donations in her memory should go to the Ground Development Fund. Should you wish to donate to the GDF on behalf of Mary and her family, you can either donate online below or make cash donations to Quaker Retail.

At time of writing on Friday 11th August 2023, an additional £1,469 of donations has gone into the Ground Development Fund since Mary's family's wishes were made known, which is a fantastic amount and thank you to everyone who has contributed. It is more than a fitting tribute to Mary and her love of Darlington Football Club.

A more dedicated DFC fan and volunteer you will not find. She will be sorely missed. Our deepest condolences to Glen, John and family at this time.

Thank you for everything, Mary. Rest in peace.
