Her Game Too Day

Darlington Football Club and Her Game Too announced an exciting partnership back in November 2023. Join us for 'Her Game Too Day' on Saturday 2nd March when Banbury United visit Blackwell Meadows!

Darlington FC are pleased to announce, as part of our commitment to Her Game Too and in celebration of International Women's Day, we will be dedicating our National League North game on Saturday 2nd March against Banbury United to the Her Game Too campaign.

Her Game Too are a group of female volunteers who are passionate about football. They are working to eradicate sexism in the football industry and want women and girls of all ages to feel confident and safe watching their teams, working including volunteering in the football industry and sharing their opinions about football online and in real life without the fear of sexist abuse.

You can read more about Her Game Too here.

The DFC HGT team consists of DFCSG Directors Joanne Cameron and Cheryl Pattison, as well as Nicole Graham and Will Hatfield from our women's and men's team respectively:

We have invited our girl's and women's teams to the game as part of the occasion, our DFC players will be wearing #HerGameToo warm up t-shirts and we will have some of our female youth team members joining the guard of honour and bearing HGT flags.

We will also have a selfie board at the game, and will be encouraging photos so we can build an album of Darlington supporters of HGT. A special thanks to John Tempest of Tempest Jones for his continued support and sponsorship of the warm up t-shirts and selfie board.

The playlist on the day will be an all-female playlist as chosen by DFC’s HGT team and our fans. We will also be shortly running a competition for two female Darlo fans to read the teams out at the game.

Upon announcing the partnership between DFC and HGT in November 2023, Joanne Cameron commented: "I came across Her Game Too via social media and was really interested and impressed with the work that they do. I wanted to be part of it!

"I became interested in football because of my son. He played football and also wanted to go and watch DFC play but, due to his age at the time, he couldn’t go alone so I took him. The phrase "if you can’t beat them, join them" springs to mind."

"I would like to see each club become part of HGT, and see the brand and vision grow. HGT needs to be the first point of contact for women and girls who experience sexism and misogyny."

"As an ambassador for Her Game Too, I want to actively promote HGT’s vision, tackle sexism in football, promote equality and ensure football is a sport for all. It should be a welcoming environment for everyone. As well as playing an active role at my own club, I will also extend this to schools and junior teams in my area".

Come along on Saturday 2nd March and celebrate HGT Day with us!
