David Steel | 7th December 2022
We were delighted to welcome Kasabian's bass player, Chris Edwards, to DFC Hospitality for the Kettering Town game on Friday 2nd December. Chris left Blackwell Meadows that night committed to Darlo as his new "second team", behind his beloved Leeds United, as well as leaving behind a couple of brilliant giveaways for two lucky fans.
It is a small world, full of sliding doors moments.
Whilst on holiday earlier this year, DFCSG Director Andrew Scullion got talking to a fellow Brit, Jason, who said he was an Oldham Athletic fan.
Andrew told Jason that David Wheater, once of Oldham, now played for Darlo. Jason had a brother who was originally from Darlington. Small world! The conversation progressed further and it turned out that Jason also had a second brother who "played in a band".
That band turned out to be Kasabian. The brother turned out to be Chris Edwards, bass player and co-founder of the group back in 1997!
Cut to Friday 2nd December 2022 and Chris, along with his two brothers Benjamin (originally from Darlington) and Jason, are sat in the Feetham Room at Blackwell Meadows enjoying hospitality and about to watch Darlo go top of the National League North thanks to a 2-2 draw with Kettering Town.
Here is a video of Andrew Scullion chatting to Chris that night:
Chris very kindly donated a signed/framed Kasabian setlist (from a Hampden Park gig earlier this year) and a personally-signed Darlington vs. Kettering Town programme that we gave away as competition prizes to two lucky YOURCLUB subscribers!
First prize was the signed/framed Kasabian set list, won by Adrian Dooley:
...with the signed Darlo/Kettering programme as a second prize, won by Adam Cattell:
Everyone at YOURCLUB would like to send their thanks to Chris for these amazing prizes and we look forward to welcoming him (and possibly the rest of the band...) back to Blackwell Meadows again in the future.
