WELCOME FROM JON SADDINGTON
Blackwell Meadows under the lights. For me, night matches have an 'extra special' feeling about them. They evoke memories of attending Feethams as a kid, viewing floodlights from neighbouring streets as they cut through the mist of cold winter nights and the Tin Shed glimmering beyond the cricket field.
Feethams provides a sense of nostalgia, but we've also experienced some scintillating nights at The Arena, Heritage Park, and Blackwell Meadows - notably Bradford City on Sky TV, play-off semis against Rochdale and Spennymoor, and Walsall in the FA Cup Replay.
Hopefully there'll be more to come at Blackwell, possibly a play-off eliminator this season, before we depart for the promised land.
This evening we entertain Chester FC, our old foes from the Football League. Like Quakers, Chester FC is a 'big club' at this level and continue to be regarded as a 'scalp' by the traditionally non-league clubs.
At the time of writing, Chester occupy 14th place and arrive at Blackwell on the back of some indifferent form, including a 0-4 defeat at Curzon Ashton. Despite their rocky start to the season, The Seals have some dangerous players amongst their ranks including Kurt Willoughby and Charlie Caton.
You might also recognise a few players with north-east connections, namely Ben Pollock – formerly of Spennymoor – and Jordan Hunter, who signed from Gateshead having also played for South Shields.
Last season, Darlo ended the season with a 0-0 draw at the Deva Stadium and defeated Chester 3-2 at Blackwell in the November with goals coming from Jonny Ngandu and Cameron Salkeld.
From a Darlo From perspective, it's great to see key players are gradually returning to the squad which bodes well for the months ahead. A fully fit Darlo team featuring the likes of Cedric Main, Tom Platt and Joe Leesley will be formidable and undoubtedly move us up to table.
Finally, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to the supporters, players, and officials of Chester. Enjoy the game!
