WELCOME FROM DAVID STEEL, DFCSG VICE CHAIR
I'm delighted to welcome you to Blackwell Meadows this afternoon for what will undoubtedly be yet another stern test early on in this new season.
Brackley are indeed always tough opposition and I expect them to be in and around the promotion hunt again, just like last season. We owe ourselves a positive result against them after drawing 2-2 here last October (having been 2-0 up at half-time) and then losing 3-0 at their place in April.
I felt we were very unlucky not to get a point down at Hereford last weekend and really felt for Tommy Taylor conceding a deflected looping shot having made a brilliant penalty save only moments earlier. Football, as ever, is fine margins.
The DFCSG board were delighted, albeit not surprised, to hear that Darlo fans had raised just shy of £1,500 for the DFC Ground Development Fund in honour of Mary Bowes. A fantastic effort, very much in the spirit of Mary and her family. Thank you to everyone that has contributed so far.
Finally, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to the supporters, players, and officials of Brackley Town. Enjoy the game.
H'away Darlo!
'MARY BOWES' AWAY PLAYER OF THE SEASON
As most readers will be aware, we recently lost one of our dearest volunteers, Mary Bowes.
The DFCSG Board decided that we needed a lasting reminder of the contribution that Mary has made to the Club as a dedicated volunteer, and we have purchased a new 'Away Player of the Season' trophy in her name. This will replace the Supporter's Club's trophy that went missing at the end of the 2012/13 season.
For those that are unfamiliar with how the 'Away Player of the Season' is chosen, on the return journey from every away match, everyone on the DFCSG coach is invited to vote for their player of the match. Glen collates the votes and announces the player of the match. The player that receives the most 'Player of the Match' awards over the season becomes the 'Away Player of the Season'.
From this season onwards, the not only will the 'Away Player of the Season' receive his personal memento, but he will also be the proud custodian of the 'Mary Bowes Away Player of the Season' trophy for a year.
